Versant Object Technology Corporation was the industry's leading provider of object database management systems (ODBMS) for multi-user, distributed environments. Versant had established itself as the dominant provider of solutions for network management applications, for example, for telecommunications, computer andutilities management. Versant achieved over 80 percent market share in these target applications.
Versant offered the industry's most complete product line, including the Versant ODBMS, application development and database administration tools, multiple programming language interfaces and a family of support services. Versant products reduced the cost of creating complex applications and enabled the develpmem of next-generation applications that were difficult or impossible to build using traditional database management technologies.
