DataPhile

DataPhile-StoneDesign
DataPhile was a sophisticated database system for NEXTSTEP users who didn't need the complexities of a rigid relational database. DataPhile's intuitive interface allowed anyone to build and generate reports and labels from a personal flat-file database, quickly and easily.

Field types included text. Rich Text, value, date, money, yes/no/empty, picture, sound, and file—which accepted drag and drop of any file's icon and then accesses the file when clicked. Entry options included defaults, calculations, ranges, autogcncratcd sequences, and entry lists. Users can define any number of fields and could add, modify, or delete fields at any time.

DataPhile could generate a database from text data; if the data was in another database, your could export it to a text file that DataPhile could import it. The Services menu and the DataWell simplified interapplication data exchange. Use the DataWell to drag a record, EPS file, or PS file and drop it into another application.

A demo of DataPhile was available to discover why it was named "The Best Database Product" in a Usenet survey.
