FlyLab

FlyLab
FlyLab, developed at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), let students construct and breed flies with varying genetic attributes. By studying and breeding the offspring, students quickly learned Mendelian genetics. FlyLab was part of the CSULA “Interactive Electronic Blackboard for Natural Science and Mathematics” project.

Computer simulated laboratories let students conduct experiments that would be too time consuming or costly to run in an actual lab. Computer simulations also combine images, sounds, and text that engage students in ways not possible with textbook-based experiments.
